Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is proud to announce its official partnership with StudentVolunteer.ie, marking a significant step forward in enhancing civic engagement and volunteerism across its student community . This collaboration will provide ATU students access to a national volunteering platform designed to connect them with meaningful community-based opportunities that build skills, foster empathy, and enrich society.
StudentVolunteer.ie is Ireland’s leading online hub for third-level students seeking to volunteer across a diverse range of causes—from environmental conservation and mental health advocacy to youth mentorship and community inclusion programmes . ATU students can build their volunteering portfolio and reflect on the impact of their volunteering towards the Sustainable Development Goals through the platform learning tools .
Speaking about the partnership, ATU President Dr. Orla Flynn expressed enthusiasm for what the future holds:
The service is free to use for students and volunteer involving initiatives and supported by campus-based staff who will assist students in matching their interests with local and national initiatives. The team at Chaplaincy & Pastoral Care are leading out on the partnership to empower students from all eight ATU campuses—Donegal, Sligo, Galway, and Mayo— to log onto the platform using their university credentials, explore thousands of volunteer opportunities, track their progress, and receive formal recognition for their contributions.
The inclusion of ATU marks a new chapter for StudentVolunteer.ie as it expands its reach and diversity across Irish higher education institutions. According to Dr Lorraine Tansey , Student Volunteer Ireland Programme Manager, “ATU brings a wealth of energy, creativity, and regional insight to our network. Their students are already making waves locally, and this partnership will open the door to even more transformative experiences. Strategically, not only will ATU join our technical software platform StudentVolunteer.ie but also avail of the Student Volunteer Ireland professional development suite to enhance volunteer management aligning to national good practice. "
To celebrate the launch, ATU will host a series of welcome events introducing the platform and volunteering fairs throughout the first semester, inviting community organisations to connect directly with students on campus. These events aim to spotlight the power of volunteering in addressing societal challenges while building volunteering .
