Our team of Psychological Supports provide much-needed advocacy and psychological support to survivors in the aftermath of a sexual assault or rape.
This is a 24/7 call-out service provided by Galway Rape Crisis Centre within the Galway Sexual Assault Treatment Unit.
As a Psychological Support Team member, you will be on call 3 times per month and commit to a minimum of 2-year service.
Please note that the role of the Psychological Supporter is NOT a counselling role but one of providing crucial advocacy and psychological support.
This service would not exist without the incredible Volunteers that give so freely of their valuable time.

Who are we looking to volunteer:
We are looking for volunteers aged 25 years and upwards to support and advocate for survivors in the aftermath of a sexual assault or rape.
Is training provided?: Yes
Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position
which will be processed with you after you apply.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
- Available to commit to 100% of Training Dates.
- Open to self-reflection and group work process.
- Living within a 30-minute drive from Galway City centre.
- Able to commit for a minimum of 2 years (3 times per month on the roster & montly supervision) after successful completion of the training process.
Skills required for this role:
- Empathic, non-judgemental, respectful, committed to the role and reliable.
- Good listeners with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to follow guidelines and represent the GRCC in a positive manner.
- Computer literate.
- Able to work as part of a team.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Days: Monday – Sunday
Time: 9.30 – 17.30 or 17.30 – 9.30
Minimum time commitment per week:
3 hour p/week
