Description

This is a group based youth mentoring programme that will match a group of 8 adult volunteers from DCU to a group of 8 young people aged 10 to 18 years from the community who would benefit from mentoring support. Each volunteer will be matched up with one young person and the matches will be made based on complimentary personalities and similar interests, as far as is possible. The group of matches will meet in a supervised setting on the DCU campus Ballymun once a week for ten weeks, for 60 to 90 minutes each time. A Foróige staff person will be present each week to supervise and support the group.

The core assumption is that friendships will develop through an activity focused programme which will have positive outcomes for the young people in specific areas. The goals may include developing a young person’s social skills, increasing self confidene, learning a new skill, integrating into the community or skills around employability etc..

There mentoring programme will include a combination of one to one activities (board games or arts and crafts) and group activities (team challenges, 5-aside soccer or basketball).

We welcome expressions of interest from committed, fun, caring, chatty and energetic volunteer applicants who have an interest in inspiring young minds and giving back to the community.

This is an extremely fun and rewarding volunteer role where you will witness young people thrive and you will help them towards achieving their unique potential. This is also a nice opportunity for volunteers to take a break from the books and enjoy fun activities on campus.
