Description

There are two interlinked elements to the idea of a holistic living lab: encouraging staff and students to spend more time in the campus gardens, and teaching them a wider appreciation of how our lives impact on nature using data and physical evidence and a range of simple open-source sensor systems and lab equipment that will allow them to see nature from a different perspective.  

Students will be given tasks such as:

• Planting seeds.
• Watering plants.
• Pruning plants.
• Weeding.
• Harvesting.
• Keeping the garden tidy.
• Composting.
  
  

Tuition will be given.  Students should have a good pair of gardening gloves and wear appropriate clothing.  Tools will be provided to use in the garden.

Benefits of Volunteering:

This is an opportunity to work outdoors on a project that benefits both students and staff in TU Dublin. 
The Library Elemental Garden is a place for students and staff to go to when feeling a little bit stressed and in need of some calm. 
The space is planted with sensory plants to touch and smell and there is a fountain so the gentle trickle of water to listen to also. 
It is also a space for students to learn with the testing of soil, water and air being undertaken by classes throughout the semesters.

The library also hosts a seed swap during the year. Many of the seeds are from the plants in the garden.  We would like to share the knowledge we have on collecting seeds later on in the season.

Flexible hours to suit our students.
