Description

At Limerick Mental Health Association, our student volunteers play a vital role in supporting community-based mental health initiatives. With over 24 years of service in Limerick, we have built strong, long-standing partnerships with universities, An Garda Síochána, and the Health Service Executive, ensuring our work is collaborative, trusted, and impactful.

This volunteering opportunity offers hands-on experience in a dynamic, person-centred environment focused on promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and recovery. Volunteers may support our Solace Café (crisis café), community events, awareness campaigns, and day-to-day operations. Duties can include welcoming and engaging with visitors, assisting with event setup and coordination, supporting peer-led activities, and helping to create a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

All training is provided, along with ongoing guidance and support, ensuring you feel confident and well-equipped in your role. Volunteers will gain valuable experience in trauma-informed care, communication, teamwork, and community engagement while making a meaningful contribution to mental health services in Limerick.

This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in psychology, social care, mental health, or community development who are looking to build practical skills and make a real difference.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Volunteers with Limerick Mental Health Association will support a range of activities across our services. This includes welcoming and engaging with visitors in a respectful, non-judgmental manner, assisting in the day-to-day running of the Solace Café (crisis café), and supporting peer-led wellbeing activities. Volunteers may also help with event setup and coordination, community outreach, and awareness campaigns. Additional tasks can include light administrative support, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment, and working as part of a team alongside staff and other volunteers.

All training is provided, along with ongoing support and supervision. Most importantly, volunteers make a meaningful difference by contributing to the wellbeing and recovery of individuals in the community.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
We are open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday to Sunday from 6 p.m. to midnight. We understand that people need time for themselves, so any hours you can spare are appreciated.
